Make a
printable resume online – Don't do it
It is very
tempting to make a printable resume online, There are some serious
drawbacks to doing this, enough so that I strongly urge you to prepare
the resume on your own computer's word processor.
Preparing a resume will take you a minimum of 2 days to track down
accurate information and format that information into a resume. Once
you have done this, you will have to read it over several times and
make corrections or improvements.
It is a great idea to have someone read your resume to not only find
potential mistakes that you missed but also to give you their
impression of how impressive they think the resume makes you sound to a
potential employer. Already to should be seeing the limitations if you
make a printable resume online.
Even if you find a website who will allow you to save your resume, that
is no guarantee that it will be there the next time you need to find a
job. The last think you want to do is have to input all that
information again.
It isn't as if your resume information becomes obsolete. In fact when
you pull up a copy of your old resume that is safe on your hard drive
or thumb drive, all you will be doing is changing the objective, the
address and adding your most recent employment. The rest of the job
history stays the same, so you have saved a lot of time by having that
saved at home and not online.
A resume is the most important first impression in your arsenal of
persuasion. If you make a printable resume online, you will end up with
a generic presentation that cannot be personalized to land a special
job interview in what is turning out to be the worst job market of all
time. There will be very few chances. Increase your odds with a good
resume.
